In this guide, we will tell you everything about Hu Tao in Genshin Impact, discussing her talents, passive skills, best weapons, and artifacts along with the required ascension materials.
Hu Tao : Playstyle and skillset
Hu Tao is a 5-star polearm wielding Pyro character and her kit is aimed at doing one of the highest single target damage in the game. Most of her damage comes from charged attacks so managing stamina becomes important along with jump/charge canceling to do damage faster.
NAME / DESCRIPTION | TYPE |
---|---|
Secret Spear of Wangsheng | Normal Attack |
Performs up to six consecutive spear strikes. | |
Secret Spear of Wangsheng | Charged Attack |
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to enemies along the way. | |
Secret Spear of Wangsheng | Plunging Attack |
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact. | |
Guide to Afterlife | Elemental Skill |
Hu Tao consumes a part of her HP, knocking nearby enemies back and entering the Paramita Papilio State. Paramita Papilio State: Increases Hu Tao’s ATK based on her Max HP at the time of entering this state. ATK Bonus gained this way cannot exceed 400% of Hu Tao’s Base ATK. Hu Tao’s attack DMG is converted to Pyro DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion. Increases Hu Tao’s resistance to interruption. In the Paramita Papilio state, Hu Tao’s Charged Attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to enemies it hits. Blood Blossom Effect: Enemies affected by Blood Blossom will take Pyro DMG every 4s. This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG. Each enemy can be affected by only one Blood Blossom effect at a time, and its duration may only be refreshed by Hu Tao herself. Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over, or when Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen. | |
Spirit Soother | Elemental Burst |
Hu Tao commands a blazing spirit to deal with Pyro DMG in a large AoE. Upon striking the enemy, regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao’s Max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times based on the number of enemies hit. If Hu Tao’s HP is below or equal to 50% when the enemy is hit, both the DMG and HP Regeneration are increased. |
Hu Tao’s Passive
- Flutter By : When a Paramita Papilio state activated by Guide to Afterlife ends, all allies in the party (excluding Hu Tao herself) will have their CRIT Rate increased by 12% for 8s.
- Sanguine Rouge : When Hu Tao’s HP is equal to or less than 50%, her Pyro DMG Bonus is increased by 33%.
- The More the Merrier : When Hu Tao cooks a dish perfectly, she has a 18% chance to receive an additional “Suspicious” dish of the same type.

Special Dish
The round-faced ghouls seem quite cute, squeezed into a pile as they are. But if you were to fall to temptation and try but one of them, you may yet come to regret it for a long while. After all, this plate is full of top-quality, taste-bud-blasting—Actually, what on earth is this stuff.
Sets to farm for Hu Tao in Genshin Impact
4 pc Shimenawa’s Reminiscence: The 2 pc bonus is not good for Hu Tao but the 4 pc bonus provides normal, charged attack and plunge attack damage buff at the expense of losing energy. Since Hu Tao’s burst heals her, the energy loss is not a huge problem in exchange for the damage increase from the buffed charged attack.
4 pc Crimson Witch of Flames: The 2 pc bonus grants an 18% Pyro damage increase and the 4 pc bonus provides damage buff for elemental reactions. This option outperforms Shimenawa’s set if players are able to continuously proc reactions.

Best weapons for Hu Tao in Genshin Impact
The staff of Homa is the best weapon for Hu Tao as it has a high base attack, Crit Damage secondary stat, and a passive that provides damage boost to her and also increases HP of the wielder which in turn further increases the damage potential. Primordial Jade Wing Spear is also a good weapon for Hu Tao.
Among the 4 Stars Dragon’s Bane, Deathmatch, Blackiff Pole, and Lithic Spear are the viable options. Dragon’s Bane works well in teams that rely on Elemental Reactions meanwhile Deathmatch and Blackcliff Pole can work even in teams not reliant on reactions. Lithic Spear in a team consisting of characters hailing from Liyue can be used.
Best Team Comps for Hu Tao
Hu Tao due to her Pyro skills has access to vaporize and melt comps. For vaporize, Mona and Xingqiu both are good options. While Mona gives high burst damage numbers, Xingqiu gives consistent reaction uptime. For melt, Kaeya and Rosaria are the best options.
She also needs someone who can reduce interruptions to attack, reduce damage is taken or a healer who does not heal too much. Zhongli and Diona are the best shielders for her with Diona also providing healing and stamina gain whereas Zhongli reduces enemy resistance.
Since Hu Tao does not do a lot of AoE damage a unit that can do clump up the enemies can take the fourth slot. The options for the Anemo characters are Sucrose and Jean, if Jean is used she can also take the role of healer thereby relieving the other slot. Using Viridescent Venerer on Anemo also helps in reducing the enemy’s elemental resistance.
Alternatively, team comps with two Pyro characters are also viable since it gives Pyro resonance which adds damage. The best character for this is Xiangling since she not only acts as a resistance shred at C1 but also solves the AoE problems with her burst.
