Developed by Coffee Stain Malmö, the mobile arm of Coffee Stain Publishing, this latest addition to the Goat Simulator franchise is Goat Simulator 3 Mobile. The game entered pre-registrations in October of this year before getting an official launch on December 5, 2023. Since I got my hands on it, I played the game, and to my surprise, I found myself “bleating” like a goat more than I expected, hence writing this Goat Simulator 3 Mobile Review to share my thoughts.
Being a Goat was never this fun
So, I finally caved and downloaded the game. The moment I opened it, I was greeted by a couple of seriously goofy-looking goats in the first cutscene, complete with a POV camera (a Skyrim reference to how the opening scene began). From there to the farm, I had to endure their smack talks. Now, before you ask, why didn’t I just skip the intro? Well, I like to savor the creativity and appreciate the quirky side of gaming.
The gameplay is pretty hilarious, having a roam-and-have-fun system. You roam around as a GOAT (I’m not talkin’ bout Messi here) on the farms, do some licking and headbutting, jump around different landscapes, and even ride cars and vehicles. The map is pretty huge, and most of them being interactive makes the gameplay a lot better. The controls are simple for all the aspects mentioned, having dedicated buttons to work around with moving setup.
A green tick to graphics and music
I give a thumbs up for the graphics and music in Goat Simulator 3 Mobile. The graphics are well-executed, with impressive details, especially with the shadows and colors, that look bright and easy on the eye. The overall style of gameplay is delightfully goofy, and even secondary elements like chickens or shovels boast a good amount of detail too, so the effort is pretty great.
Now, let’s talk tunes. The music and background sounds are crucial to setting the right tone for a game of this premise, and the developers have aced it, especially the ‘baa’ had me letting out a loud cackle the first time hearing. The music not only captures the essence of a countryside farm but also serves as a fantastic backdrop for the hilarious antics of your goat.
Events and Minigames keep the interest running
The game keeps the excitement alive with Events and Minigames, offering a continuous stream of fun and the chance to earn various rewards. The indication system is quite handy, allowing you to mark your path on the map if you ever find yourself confused.
With seven different mini-games to indulge in, for me, these mini-games could have been better, but the gameplay gets an extra dose of enjoyment thanks to them, so I’ll give them a nod. Multiplayer and co-op is pretty fun too, but I tend to stay away from these modes usually. But before you start judging me, it’s not for lack of friends to play with. Sometimes, a GOAT just needs some solo time to wreak havoc in peace.
Poor optimization could ruin your experience
I couldn’t help but notice a particular aspect that left me a bit underwhelmed – the not-so-great optimization. The camera tends to stutter when you’re on the move, and experiencing a few frame drops disrupts the smooth gameplay.
It’s less than ideal when your visuals start hiccupping just as you’re navigating through the game. It can make the whole experience less enjoyable and a tad frustrating. This game is loaded, and targeted for the PC and Console audience, so I don’t mind them trying to deliver to the small screens with the best efforts.
One-time purchase and you’re done – no unnecessary hassles
What I like about most paid games is that they don’t come with loaded ads or many other in-game purchases, and Goat Simulator 3 Mobile also does well in this aspect. No ad-interruptions, and customizations that can be easily claimed by getting ‘karma‘ (an in-game collectible), the gameplay is pretty neat.
Final Verdict
In summary, Goat Simulator 3 Mobile delivers a hilariously entertaining experience with well-executed graphics, captivating music, and immersive sound effects. While some optimization issues may interrupt the smooth gameplay, the game compensates with engaging Events, Minigames, and the added fun of online co-op and multiplayer.
While there are a few forgivable bugs, Goat Simulator 3 Mobile’s distinct and absurd charm truly sets it apart in the mobile gaming landscape. However, the relatively hefty price tag of $12.99 might be a concern for some potential players. Despite this, it remains a delightful addition, tailor-made for those in search of a quirky and offbeat gaming escapade.
