Recently, PUBG Mobile Esports has completed two big international events. The PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2023 was held in Riyadh, followed by its Allstars stage. PMWI 2023 will have a significant impact on PMGC 2023. Thai team Vampire Esports took away both the trophies of PMWI 2023 Main Event and Allstars. While they’re the champion of PUBG Mobile Esports’ mid-season international event, the team also earned its region additional slots. Meaning, we will see a total of 12 teams from the SEA which was previously 11 in total.
PMWI 2023 was organized by Gamers8 along with KRAFTON, and Level Infinite. Gamers8 is one of the largest esports tournaments and gaming festivals where several esports titles are featured. And this year, the Riyadh event features a whopping $45 million as prize money. Among the popular Mobile Esports titles, PUBG Mobile was featured in Gamers8 where three tournaments were held offline. Besides, Norwegian DJ and Producer Alan Walker joined hands with KRAFTON’s battle royale and live performed in the opening week.
After the PMWI 2023: The road to PMGC 2023 begins now, SEA has earned an extra slot
With the conclusion of PMWI 2023, PUBG Mobile Esports has crossed its mid-season in its 2023 competitive year. Now, the Fall Season starts in all the regions. Ahead of this, teams are now preparing themselves for the next big round aiming toward a slot in the world finals. Playing regional leagues and championships will earn each team PMGC points. As per the slot allocation, teams will be qualified o the year-ending event.
Southeast Asia has 11 slots in total for the PMGC 2023. As Vampire Esports has already won the PMWI 2023, they will be participating in the event directly. Thus, an additional slot will be awarded to Southeast Asia and 12 teams will qualify for the year-ending tournament. Southeast Asia will send 11 teams which are from the country’s pro leagues, wildcard, and PMSL SEA Spring and Fall Season.
How PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2023 will impact on the upcoming PMGC 2023
The road to PMGC 2023 is a long way to run. As several splits and events based on regional locations run throughout the whole competitive year, teams can collect PMGC points from those to qualify in the PMGC 2023. There are many teams that are likely going to be a part of PMGC 2023 and are featured in the PWMI 2023 already.
For example, Chinese team Six Two Eight finished being the runner-up of the PMWI 2023, and the team is currently sitting in the second position in PEL 2023 points table. The topper Tianba came 10th in the PMWI 2023. If no major alterations affect the PEL 2023 points table then both of the Chinese teams will participate in the upcoming PMGC this year. Thus, PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 served as a showdown as well as a pre-battle exercise. Thus, the impact of PMWI 2023 on this year’s PMGC can be seen clearly.
Additionally, PMGC-tested teams like Stalwart Esports, and DRS GAMING were present in this year’s PMWI and also are n good position in their respective PMGC points league (Stalwart Esports sitting on top and DRS is in 5th place in South Asia Standings). Infinity IQ, though running low on points, Box Gaming, on the other hand, is sitting at the top 2 of Vietnam Standings.
Both of the teams were contenders in PMWI 2023. Similar to this, other participants were a part of their respective regional and country’s PMGC point leagues. Though the PMWI 2023 Finals featured 16 total teams while the PMGC 2023 will host 51, participating in the PMWI 2023 will be a boost for each team to set their strategic move in a new shape, or even tuning the current one is a very good option.
PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023: The road for Indian teams to the event
On the 2nd of September 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned PUBG Mobile in India. The services provided by Tencent Games in India were terminated as well. Later, South Korean video game company Krafton Inc. developed and published an Indian-exclusive version of the battle royale, Battlegrounds Mobile India.
The esports stage for Indian teams is, thus, confined to India only. The only way through for them on the global stage is via an invitation. The PMGC started back in 2020 with its season zero. So far, it has held 3 tournaments where only a single team from India, GodLike Esports, participated in PMGC 2021 through Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021. PMGC in 2020 and 2022 was held without any teams from India. The BGIS Season 2 will be held this year but the slot allocation for PMGC 2023 did not mention any Indian teams.
There are only 3 slots for invited teams in the finals. One slot will be given to the host nation, Turkey, while the rest two will be from PEL and global invite only. There is a very strong possibility that an Indian team will get the global invited slot as the mainstream PUBG Mobile is not available in the country. So, there are no direct slots for the team from the Indian stage.
PMGC 2022 featured 50 teams globally, except there were no Indian teams because of an ongoing ban on the game back then in India. As this year PMGC will host 51 teams and the government of India finally pulled off the ban on the game, fans may watch an Indian team make it through to the grand stage of PUBG Mobile Esports via a direct invite. The chance is very high because of the Indian gaming scene’s impact on global levels. It is one of the largest markets for PUBG Mobile. And the game, surely, won’t want to lose a lot of viewership by putting away the Indian community.
Final thoughts
The PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 was a breakthrough event for PUBG Mobile Esports 2023. From being featured in the largest esports tournaments and gaming festival, Gamers8, to hosting big names in the game’s pro scene, the PMWI has great significance and impact in the PMGC 2023. Good for the fans as they get thrilled each time. Finally, we’ll watch if the event has more to serve in the coming days.
