Shockingly, Electronic Arts have decided to scrap the development of both Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile. This move comes as a disappointment to fans of both games. The reason for the shutdown, as stated in a recent blog post released by EA, is that the “content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has started to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.” The formal shutdown of the Apex Legends Mobile server will take place on May 1st, 2023. On the other hand, from today, there will be no more in-app purchases available at any time.
Apex Legends Mobile shutdown leaves the community in shock
Since the game’s first release, Apex Legends Mobile has established itself at a respectable level of popularity. Both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store have already given the game its respective “Game of the Year” awards as well as GamingonPhone’s best mobile port of 2022.
On the other hand, the community lodged a great number of complaints against Respawn about a number of different aspects of the game. Apex Legends Mobile has shocked everyone by unexpectedly announcing that it would be closing down after operating for one year and having a moderate amount of success.
Another well-known IP that was just about to make its debut in the mobile industry was Battlefield Mobile. The game was only just made available for play in the beta testing stage in selected regions. Electronic Arts have also decided to stop any further development of the game. The company did not provide any particular explanation for why the game was terminated.
Players will not get any refund for the in-app purchases of Apex Legends Mobile
In the official blog post, Electronic Arts mentioned that, in accordance with the terms of the EA User Agreement, they would not be offering refunds for any purchases made with real money. On the other hand, the players will be able to make use of all of the purchases they have previously made right up until May 1 of 2023. Beginning today, players will no longer be able to make any more in-app transactions or purchases from third-party web stores as well.
The decision to end support for Apex Legends was made only for its mobile version. Industrial Toys, the development firm that was responsible for the game, is also being closed down by Electronic Arts. However, the company has not yet stated a cause for the shutdown of the studio at this time.
The shutdown came as a great shock for players and content creators around the world. Although Electronic Arts are scrapping Industrial Toys, they have also mentioned that their team is excited about the mobile platform and looking to serve the players in the future.
