Andy Dinh, CEO of one of the world’s most prominent esports team, TSM, has tweeted that in 5 years the viewership for mobile esports will outgrow the PC counterpart. He also started a debate upon who agrees with him and who does not.
Mobile Esports are already breaking world records
The Free Fire Word Series 2021 has already beaten this threshold for the sheer numbers. Below you can see the disparity between the other recent championships and Free Fire’s. Add the fact that most people may play on the go but not on their computers, and the perspective only gets better.
This news is great for any esports enthusiast or even businessman looking into a growing opportunity. As the number of players grows and a bigger chunk of the global economy shifts to digital work and competition with the COVID pandemic catalyzer, we can expect ever-growing structures and services to support the oncoming projects of championships, tournaments, and such.
There are no signs of a tone-down of the scenario. In fact, with the partial release of Wild Rift, Riot Games has already announced World Championship for it and the rumored Valorant mobile strengthens expectations. Moreover, we can expect more technologies embracing the mobile platform for game releases, streams, partnerships, etc.
For now, all we can do is use the available data and prospect. Even further, we may discuss among each other as TSM CEO Andy did and check if the mobile esports seed is already germinating enough to beat PC viewership.
Do you think it will come true? Do you believe mobile games will face a big crash soon in the future? Let us know in the comments.
