Netflix, the most popular streaming service in the world as of now, boasts a vast number of original media that accounts for more than 50% of the media it houses and has recently decided to get involved with the gaming industry as well in the form of Netflix Games. And now Netflix has announced that its game streaming beta is now rolling out to selected subscribers in the UK and Canada with two games included. This limited beta is meant to test the game streaming technology and controller, and to improve the member experience over time.
Users accessing Netflix Games Streaming Beta via TV can play with their phone as a controller
Netflix, on its official site, posted an announcement yesterday, that is, on the 14th of August 2023, there will be a Netflix Games beta in UK and Canada as part of its beta program regarding the expansion of its gaming section across more platforms, besides mobile.
In 2021, Netflix made its debut in the realm of gaming with its addition of mobile gaming features on the streaming platform, and it looks like they are set for more at the present.
As announced by Netflix, two games will be playable for the users who will be selected, with those two games being Oxenfree, an indie adventure game by Night School Studio, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, an arcade game which is also a Netflix original.
Users who access the Netflix Games Streaming Beta via TV will be able to play with their phone as a controller which can be downloaded on IOS devices from the App Store, whereas those who access the beta via PCs or MacBooks will be able to play with a keyboard and mouse. The following are the devices that will be able to access the beta:
- Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players
- LG TVs
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Samsung Smart TVs
- Roku devices/TVs
- Nvidia Shield TV
- Walmart ONN
Furthermore, as announced by Netflix, more devices will be added to this list after a couple of routine updates to the beta.
Netflix’s primary goal now is to be the dominant force in the entertainment industry and seize control of the gaming market as well. As a result, Netflix is diversifying and expanding the range of devices and platforms through which one can access the company’s gaming aspect and make it more accessible in general.
