Operation Apocalypse draws resemblance to Hyper Front, which was shut down in 2023

Before we get to the “Hyper Front” rumors, let me tell you some details about the new game. Operation Apocalypse­ is a mobile 5v5 multiplayer tactical shooting game that utilize­s Unreal Engine 4 for the stunning graphics it delivers. Here, we battle­ using a unique Chinese culture­-inspired theme with weapons, maps as well as heroes.

There will be five­ distinct hero positions, each with its unique se­t of responsibilities and traits. Howeve­r, within these positions, there­ exist numerous hero role­s, each offering a diverse­ range of abilities and playstyles. As expected, we will be getting some amazing competitive mode­s in the game, like te­am battles, solo matches, qualifiers, and different challe­nges.

Hyper Front was also an online shooter-based game which we fans were extremely hyped for. One of the talking points about the game became its close resemblance to Riot Games‘ popular shooter Valorant. Well, the ‘resemblance‘ was so great that NetEase was sued by Riot Games stating the game was “completely mirrored” and thus, the game had to ultimately shut down in 2023.

Operation Apocalypse to conduct beta testing in China ahead of release

A closed beta test is on the run, with which players can participate. Kicking off on April 11, 2024, however, this will be exclusive to Android only. The data won’t be carried forward and will be deleted once the test is over. For participation, the minimal device requirements are Snapdragon 665, Kirin 960, and Dimensity 6020 are accepted, but it’s recommended to use devices with Snapdragon 845, Kirin 980, or Dimensity 6080 for a smoother experience.

The registration for the test as well as the game is currently available in China, players from the region can secure their spots by signing up on the Haoyou Kuaidao app store. You can complete the process by scanning the QR code through the App Client.

There­’s no clarity around the worldwide launch of the game now, though I believe NetEase­ Games intends a global launch since the visuals and the details of the game look promising.

There­fore, let’s patiently await official de­tails regarding this matter, and hopefully wish doesn’t find the same path as Hyper Front. Keep an eye on the official site for more updates.

Hyper Front was seen as a Valorant knockoff by many fans around the globe

While there are no official reasons behind the shutdown of the game, there have been some speculations in the market regarding the same. One of them is its rather close resemblance to another hit video gaming title Valorant. Riot Games took action against them as well and sued them for producing the Valorant copycat in December last year. With the latest developments, it looks like Hyper Front was on the receiving end of the proceedings as the game now aims for a shutdown as per tweets from the official handle.

There were a lot of features in the game that were very reminiscent of the original Valorant title. Hyper Front offered players a roster of characters to choose from. Each character in the game had something different to offer, with different powerups and gameplay options. There was also a whole arsenal of different weapons to choose from to suit various play styles and preferences. While playing it felt very similar to Valorant, even the game’s environment is sci-fi giving it the title of being a Valorant knockoff.

It is very natural that once a game gets famous other developers would want to cash in on the popularity and develop their title by adding a few extra features to the gameplay. There are 2 in-game battle modes, Casual and Ranked modes. The casual modes include Classic, Death Fight, Arms Race, and Conquest match types to choose from. While ranked matches include Search and Destroy which lets players rank up by defeating other players. 

While no official reason is given out by the developers it looks very probable that its awful likeness to Valorant may be the reason for the shutdown.

Biggest Mobile Game Disappointments in 2022

Here are our picks for mobile games that proved to be a disappointment for mobile gamers in 2022:

1. Diablo Immortal

Let’s talk about what was probably the biggest example this year. Diablo Immortal, which was bringing Blizzard’s iconic IP to mobile in its truest form, made players wait for four years after the initial announcement, facing major delays.

And after that, it debuted at #1 on the App Store for forty countries. And after that, it proceeded to completely fall out of favor. The monetization issues with the core gameplay, skill systems, and other problems led to the game’s quick and graceless downfall. One of the biggest and most hyped AAA releases of this year seemed to be snuffed out in no time. 

Not only did Diablo Immortal crash and burn, but it also affected the reputation of the mobile platform, reinforcing the belief that mobile is full of money-hungry developers who only want to sell you microtransactions. 

2. Crash Bandicoot: On the Run 

We have yet another title with a successful developer behind it that took a pretty major IP, created a bunch of hype, opened up with pretty good positions on the charts, accumulating twenty million downloads, and then, the charts started to go down.

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run did take a beloved IP but it failed to execute something that would rope in players for the long run. An endless runner with items locked behind time and currency (once again, the monetization) just didn’t work well enough and now, the title is set to be shut down in February of next year. 

3. Hyper Front 

This next title’s biggest fault is very simply, the fact that it blatantly copied a much bigger game. Hyper Front’s entire claim to fame was being a copy of Valorant, the incredibly popular 5v5 Tactical shooter. And the game did pretty well with NetEase behind it.

Until Riot Games decided to hit them with legal action, that is. With Valorant Mobile well on the way, this wasn’t unexpected and although this was a disappointment, we do have a better AAA experience on the way. Now the game hasn’t gone down yet but with Riot Games pursuing legal action, it’s likely that it will. 

4. Supercell Games shutting down

Three soft launch titles simply shut down. The common link is Supercell. Now while we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, these three titles were shut down in rapid succession with the official statement for the trio saying that they failed to meet the developer’s expectations.

Now while popularity amongst players might’ve been a factor, we don’t really know for sure. The fourth title with a Supercell connection, Hot Lap League, was also shut down recently, although its developers stated that the game was underperforming financially. With these games being shut down, players looking forward to them will definitely be disappointed. 

5. Ban of BGMI and Free Fire 

For the longest while, BGMI (PUBG Mobile, but for India) and Free Fire dominated the action shooter scene (with Call of Duty: Mobile also being a major contender). However, they suffered major losses after facing bans in India, which hosts a major market for mobile games. The Indian Government came down on them pretty hard, snatching the games away from the millions of players who enjoyed logging into them. 

That was pretty much it for titles that seemed to let down players and have disappeared from the mobile gaming sphere. Hopefully, the void they leave is fulfilled by the other releases stacked for 2023.

Riot wants Hyper Front to be taken down and seeks “substantial” damages

Riot has decided to file the complaint in various courts around the world in order to ensure that the game is completely taken down in their 162-page legal document, they pointed out several similarities between the two titles and in a statement issued to Polygon by Riot Games’ Lawyer Dan Nabel says “All of our creative choices are mirrored in NetEase’s game. We don’t think that changing the color of a character ability or slightly modifying the visual appearance changes the fact that it’s copyright infringement. It’s like that old saying, ‘You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”

NetEase has had a history of making games with a close likeness to other titles, with another example being Lost Light, a game that many considered a copy of Escape from Tarkov, and with Valorant Mobile being in the works and gearing up to be shown off to the public, this wasn’t unexpected. Nabel added to his statement, saying “We don’t want to rely on one particular market to have this issue resolved. NetEase is a global publisher, as are we. We want them to know that we take the matter very seriously.” 

Considering just how extensively NetEase copied Valorant, the chances of the game being taken down are quite probable. Riot is also looking for damages. Although this isn’t the first time, a mobile game was accused of copyright infringement with Area F2 being sued for a similar crime and ultimately shut down by Ubisoft due to its likeness and similarity to Rainbow Six Siege

This Hyper Front Heroes Tier List should only be taken as a reference because different strategies and processes can yield different results for players. This tier list is divided into categories of S+, S, A, B, C, and D.

Best Meta Heroes from each class for Hyper Front in November 2022

All the heroes have different abilities but they can still be put into certain groups taking into consideration the outcomes of their powers and for what reasons they can be used. These groups are known to have classes in the game and there are five different types of classes available. Here is what each class stands for and the best hero amongst all the heroes in the class.

Guardians class: Coldcast

Players can probably guess from the name that heroes belonging to this class have the duty of protecting their teammates even if that needs to be done by putting themselves on the line. This class has two heroes namely Coldcast and Valkyrie.

Having at least one Guardians in one’s team will help the players a lot. Coldcast is better than Valkyrie if one needs to choose between them because Valkyrie has the ability to spot opponents and use shields against them.

She can also throw grenades from the sky which does sound like a good advantage but Coldcast can slow down the speed of one’s opponents, she can also turn them into frozen statues, and like Valkyrie, she can form shields too. She also gives out huge damage by using Storm of ice. Both of the heroes have pretty similar abilities but the fact that Coldcast freeze her opponents on the spot and even slows them down gives her an upper hand.

Scouts class: Senital

As the name suggests, their job is to scout the area and found out the locations of their opponents so that they can plan their attack accordingly. Players who like to shoot enemies from a distance will like this class because the heroes have an extended shooting range.

Though it takes time to master their power shooting from a greater distance than normal is somewhat challenging and the players trying to do it should have a good amount of tolerance and patience. The heroes from this class are Senital and Faith Arrow.

Both of them can scout the map for opponents but while Faith Arrow does that using arrows, Senital does it using aerial drones. This ability is pretty similar but the fact that Senital can throw grenades at the enemies to attack quickly makes the difference because Faith Arrow uses Fire Arrows on enemies and the chance of missing is relatively high. Thus using Senital is the safer bet.

Tacticians Class: Blink

Heroes from this class are well-known strategists who can use the weak points of their opponents to their own advantage. Players tend to not like this class very much as the heroes don’t deal much damage to the opponents but they can improve if players keep upgrading their skills by using them in battles. This class has three heroes namely Storm, Blink, and Veil.

All the three heroes have pretty similar abilities like powers to blind their opponents by various methods like creating a storm in the case of Storm or creating a sandstorm in the case of the veil. But Blink is the winner amongst them because apart from the ability to blind her opponents, she can also teleport to literally any place on the map and even teleport her opponents to separate them from their teams.

Brawlers Class: Blood Raider

The heroes from this class have short-ranged fighting abilities and are used in closed combats. They have quite different skill sets and also some of the most useful ones which makes them the most popular class in the whole game. It consists of four different heroes namely Blood Raider, Blast, Nemesis, and Thunder.

All of the heroes have different kinds of abilities and each of them is really good. Though the fight for the top spot is quite tough and people may have different opinions about it too. But for now, Blood Raider takes the win because apart from its self-healing powers while fighting enemies, it also has the ability to resurrect itself from death itself.

This is a very important and special ability to have in this game teammates can’t revive each other in this game and this power gives them a second opportunity in the same round which increases their chances to win by a lot.

Supporter Class: Cure Light

Supporters are the class who don’t want to steal the spotlight from their close and long-range combat teammates and prefer to operate from the shadows. As the name suggests, their job is to support their friends by providing healing abilities to everyone around them and also by debuffing the players, which in turn will reduce their chances of winning.

There is just one hero in this class for now named Cure Light. As there is no other hero in this class, there is no competition for Cure Light for the first spot. But that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be a worthy contender if there was in fact any competition as apart from the ability to heal her teammates, she can also heal herself which provides her with a great advantage. She can also block various places on the map to stop the opponents from entering and exiting various spots.

Hyper Front is still a new release. We still cannot determine the meta of the game. But from the statistics, a ranking can be made for the weapons. Please remember that the tier list is entirely subjective. Every player has a unique play style. The criteria that we will be following for the ranking is explained below:

• S-tier: These are the mainly used and most effective guns. You can use them on any map as minor situational weapons.
• A-tier: These weapons are also powerful. But they might not always come in handy, depending on a few situations and maps.
• B-tier: These weapons are powerful but come with certain disadvantages. These weapons are mostly used by players who are more comfortable with these weapons in certain situations.
• C-tier: These weapons are very situational. No one can completely be confident in 1v1 fights with these weapons unless you are holding certain angles.
• D-tier: These are the most situational weapons. Players rarely buy these weapons. You can buy them if your team is going into an eco round.

Hyper Front 2022 Weapons Tier List: Explanation for Classification of the Weapons

Overpowered Weapons

AK

AK is the most picked gun in Hyper Front. It is one of the most viable options in every kind of situation. AK has high body damage and can 1-tap headshot in any range. The only downside of this weapon is the complex recoil pattern.

M4A1

Phantom is also a viable weapon in every situation. It is mostly suited for players who love to spray down their enemies. Although this gun has great damage in mid to close range, the damage is a bit less in long range.

Barrett

Barret is the go-to sniper for any player who loves sniping. With 1-shot kill damage in all ranges, this is the best sniper available in the game.

SCAR

SCAR is a backup weapon in the game. This gun comes with a mix of AK and Phantom with high damage in close and long range. But it also has bullet drop damage like the Phantom. However, the recoil of SCAR is easy to control, unlike AK and Phantom.

Good Weapons

Vector

Vector is the best available SMG in the game. This is the best choice in those rounds where your team is going for half-buys. You can easily take down AKs or Phantoms in close-range combat if you have good aim.

Heavy Pistol

The Heavy Pistol is a high-risk and high-reward pistol. Its one-tap ability can give it an edge over other pistols. The downside of this pistol is its less magazine capacity and low fire rate.

MK14

MK14 is a good pick if you want to save credits. Its high damage can take down enemies quite easily at any range. It also has a high wall penetration ability. However, its single bullet mode might make you think twice before picking it if you are having a bad day with your aim.

M249

M249 is the best LMG available in the game. With high magazine capacity, firing rate, and less recoil, it is one of the best guns to use in your defending rounds. However, the damage of this gun is very inconsistent in long-range battles.

Average Weapons

R93

This is a budget sniper in the game. It takes two body shots to finish enemies, while a headshot can instantly kill the enemies. With higher mobility and ad speed, this sniper can come in handy for players with crisp sniper aims.

AA12

The fully automatic shotgun is excellent for rushing sites and holding aggressive close angles. Its low spread and high fire rate rank higher despite having less damage than M870.

USP

USP can be an excellent pick for players who try to take long-range battles in pistol rounds. USP is the perfect replacement for heavy pistols. It can also deal great damage in long-range combats with decent short and mid-range.

QBZ

QBZ is a good pick if you are low on credits. This weapon is more viable at close range despite being a rifle.

P90

This is the backup SMG of the game. High fire rate and damage can give you an advantage in close combat. However, the cost of this weapon is higher than other SMGs, making it a wrong choice if you are low on credits.

SVD

The backup sniper of the game pretty much works like the R93. Like other backup weapons, SVD costs are also higher than other snipers.

Poor Weapons

Knight

Knight is an LMG but also can act like an SMG with its fast fire rate. This gun is more suitable for players who like to hold angles. The weapon’s downside is its long and medium-range damage.

FAL

FAL is the cheapest and slowest rifle in the game. This game is very situational and does not suit a lot of players. The gun’s recoil is very hard to control, although it has good damage.

M870

This is the shotgun with the highest damage. But this is not usable in mid or long range at all. You can use this gun only to camp at places and to catch the enemy off-guard at close range.

CZ75

This is the only automatic pistol in the game. With a good amount of damage in the close and mid-range, it is a viable option to use and win the pistol round.

UltiMax

The light machine gun with a magazine capacity of 50 can be the perfect replacement for Knight. It automatically recovers the bullet through a particular wheel structure when it is not fired.

Weak Weapons

UMP

UMP is one of the most challenging guns to master in this game. With a high burst fire rate, control of this gun is complex for most of the players. This gun also has significantly less damage in mid or long range.

Sawed-off

The shotgun pistol is not viable in the game due to its low damage and magazine capacity.

M92

M92 is the default gun of this game. This pistol has very little damage and range. But if it falls in the right hands, it still can be a good weapon.

UZI

UZI is another backup SMG weapon of the game. The UZI is very similar to UMP’s damage and low magazine capacity.

Hyper Front Elite Cup 2022 finals featured top teams from the SEA region competing to become champions

There were 12 teams competing in the Southeast Asian Division of the Hyper Front Elite Cup. Professional athletes from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia were among the 12 teams that took part.

Participating in the competition were a number of renowned teams, including Dunia Games, Demigods Esports, UTG International, KHI Esports, HomeBois, The Infinity, Geek Fam, Voin SBO, TEM Entertainment, Smart Omega, RSG PH, and Bren Esports.

22 contestants from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia were invited to the offline Hyper Front Elite Cup final rounds in Jakarta. Numerous gamers gathered at Mall Taman Anggrek during the offline matches to take part in Hyper Front’s inaugural offline celebration. Along with the thrilling battles, there was a lot going on during the competition, and platforms were available for players to enjoy the game in the esports environment.

UTG International performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament

UTG International demonstrated its abilities early in the competition as it finished second in Group C. They beat KHI Esports and drew with Geek Fam in the group stage to advance to the knockout round. They advanced to the offline competition in Jakarta after defeating Dunia Games 2-1 in the opening round of knockout play.

They bravely battled in Jakarta and won the championship by overcoming DemiGods Esports and defeating Team Geek Fam. UTG International won the competition, followed in the final standings by DemiGods Esports in second, Smart Omega in third, and Geek Fam in fourth.

Cure Light Abilities

Ability 1 – Nano Treatment

Cure Light’s ability Nano Treatment releases nano-bugs that attach themselves with ally heroes with less HP to restore their HP. Cure Light is the only hero in the game that can heal their allies or even herself, making her abilities more special than others. Players can use this free ability several times after a 30-second cooldown.

Ability 2 – Area Blockade

Cure Light can release a swarm of nano-bugs that will create a blockade through his ability, ‘Area Blockade.’ The blockade will create a hexagonal shape that will slow all the enemy units trapped inside it. This ability will cost 200 credits and can be equipped with up to 2 charges. 

Ultimate Ability- Body Reconstruction

Cure Light’s ultimate ability is an absolute game changer and is why this hero is a must-have in the team. Through this ability, Cure Light releases nano-bugs on ally death marks to rebuild them. After some time, the ally will be resurrected from death and back in full health.

Hyper Front Cure Light Gameplay Tips

Cure Light’s nano treatment ability can be a round saver for the team. Use this ability on the allies who are low on HP and need to heal. Be it any defender who needs it for defending a site or a duelist who needs to enter a site; this ability can help the team to regroup and start the round over again. Using this ability at the right time is very important; trying to use this during an ongoing gunfight might not be the best time to do it. 

Body Reconstruction is an incredible and powerful ability. If used properly, it can change the result of the round entirely to the team’s favor. This ability can be helpful if the team is at a player advantage while retaking or attacking a site; reconstruction of an ally will bring the firepower back to the team.

Players should be careful about the surroundings while using this ultimate ability and use it only where it’s safe. If the ally’s death mark is in an open spot, the reconstructed ally might get killed again as the reconstruction process takes some time, and the ally will be an easy target for the enemies to kill.

Coldcast can be an important hero in the team from the Guardian role. Her goal is to sustain enemy damage and protect the allies during a gunfight using her ability to block enemy units’ vision or pathways.

Coldcast Abilities

Ability 1 – Ice-core Trap

Coldcast’s Ice-core Trap will be helpful to slow down an opponent’s movement during the attack and defense rounds. The ability will trap any enemy unit inside its radius; after a short while, the trap will trigger and eventually reduce their movement speed drastically. You need to buy this ability with 100 credits. 

Ability 2 – Ice Barrier

Coldcast can create an ice barrier that can sustain enemy damage through this ability. Though the ice barrier is created for a limited time and can be destroyed, it will still be helpful to block enemy lines of sights and pathways. You need to buy this ability using 300 credits. 

Ultimate Ability – Freezing Storm

Coldcast’s ultimate ability is to create an ice storm covering a massive area. After the ice storm is initiated, it also starts a countdown. With time, everything inside the ice storm starts to freeze, and as the timer ends, all enemy units inside the ice storm will turn into ice, making them easy targets to kill.

Coldcast’s primary ability will make the opponent units slow like a snail once trapped inside. Using this ability can help the team to buy some time while rotating or retaking a site. The ice trap can also help the team stop or slow down enemy rush or rotation. Enemies slowed by the ice trap will be unable to walk fast or jump; as a result, they will be an easy target.

The ice barrier can be called Coldcast’s most pivotal ability. Players can use this barrier in different ways in different situations. The barrier can block the opponent’s field of vision and pathways to move around the map. Players can use it to block a site and plant the star core safely or hide after planting the star core.

About Storm in Hyper Front

Storm is one of the three heroes from the tactician class we know now. Players can use Storm’s abilities to create clouds in different parts of the maps to block your opponent’s field of vision and help your team enter a site.

Storm Abilities

Ability 1 – Tornado Burst

Tornado Burst is Storm’s signature ability. Players can have up to three charges of the tornado burst per round. Storm can create clouds in different parts of the map through his mini-map screen while using this ability.

These can block the enemy’s line of vision and help the team enter a site. Storm can create spaces using the clouds for his team and control the team’s movement all over the map. Players need to buy this ability using 100 credits for each cloud.

Ability 2 – Cyclone Burst

Storm’s secondary ability is a grenade that will create a cloud vortex after exploding. The vortex will start pulling all the nearby units to the center and slowing their movement, inflicting vulnerability on them. Players need to buy this ability using 300 credits. 

Ultimate Ability – Tornado

Storm’s ultimate helps him to launch the Eiros EMP using his mini map screen. After the Eiros is triggered, it creates a tornado around it, inflicting heavy damage on all the characters inside the tornado area for several seconds.

The first thing to do while using Storm’s ability is to get into the correct position quickly before the round starts. Create clouds on the angles you expect your opponent to peek from; the clouds will minimize their vision to shoot. Blocking off certain angles can help your team to enter a site or rotate easily between the map. 

Storm’s ultimate is one of the most useful ultimate abilities in the game. It can be most helpful during the post-plant situation. Whenever you hear your enemy defusing the star core, immediately release the emp over the bomb, and it will inflict heavy damage on the units inside the tornado’s radius and stop them from defusing the star core.
