PUBG mobile fans woke up to a surprise treat this morning as Battlegrounds Mobile India, often known as BGMI, officially released across all android devices this morning. Users that had pre-registered for the game were greeted by notification and the game has already amassed hundreds of thousands of downloads. Here’s everything you need to know
Long overdue
Ever since PUBG Mobile was banned in September last year, fans were clamouring for it to be brought back. After months of leaks, speculation and rumours, BGMI was officially teased in May. This was followed up by more promotional content across various social media. Pre-registrations also opened up soon after.
Beta version was released in June as well as an early access version that was accessible to everyone. Today morning, the game officially launched on Google Play. The iOS version is expected to launch within the next week or so.
The download size for BGMI is around 700 megabytes which seems to be far less than the original PUBG Mobile, which came up to a whopping 2 gigabytes before its ban last year. The game more or less features the same modes of registration, primarily through Twitter or Facebook.
BGMI data transfer will be stopped from July 6th until further notice
Players who have already played PUBG Mobile previously can transfer their data to their BGMI accounts. Do note that data transfer will be halted from July 6th onwards for an indefinite period of time due to maintenance work. The data transfer may take some time so be patient. More details can be found on the game’s official YouTube channel.
Pre-registered members as well as those that have transferred data are eligible for some special rewards. BGMI retains most of the core of PUBG Mobile’s gameplay, with the exception of a few minor changes. Its return promises to be a treat and a welcome break from the pandemic for people across the country.
