PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022 has been officially announced. Sony Xperia, the game’s official smartphone partner, will sponsor the PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022 competition. It will be the largest PUBG Mobile invitational event to date, with teams from all over the world competing.
According to the official PUBG Mobile Esports Twitter handle, more details about the next invitational will be released in June 2022. The venue of the tournament will be Magic Theatre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
PMWI 2021: A hit affair on its own, all eyes on PMWI 2022
Last year, the PMWI 2021 was held in the month of July. It was held in two parts, the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2021: West and the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2021: East. In total, 32 teams from around the world were invited to compete, with 16 teams from the West and 16 from the East.
Teams from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Japan, Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau, and other countries competed in the East region. Teams from North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and other countries competed in the West region.
Valdus Esports, Natus Vincere, D’Xavier, Zeus Esports, Bigetron RA, DS Gaming, Yalla Esports, DRS Gaming, REJECT, Blacklist International, A1 Esports, Geek Fam, i8 Esports, NASR Esports, Fanatic Zombies, and Team Myths were among the 16 teams that competed in the PMWI 2022 East.
The PMWI 2022 West featured 16 teams, including Alpha 7 Esports, Next Ruya Gaming, Road To Glory, Ghost Gaming, 19esports, Chivas Esports, Destiny, Gunz Esports, RA’AD Esports, Team Queso, QLASH, UDR Killers, Lakonostra MVP, Team Onyx, and Godsent.
PUBG Mobile World Invitational PMWI 2022: Tournament Format, Prize Pool and more
PMWI, for the first time, has introduced a format, similar to Garena Free Fire. It will organise a two-week tournament, which will see various teams from different parts of South Asia face off against each other.
Week 1
The Week 1 affair will mostly revolve around the Regional Champions in the world, which will have a prize pool of $2M USD. Matches will be played over the 3 maps of Erangel, Miramar and Sanhok. Week 1 will take place between the dates of 11th of August, 2022 till the 13th of August, 2022. The 2 Million USD will be divided among the top 5 teams from this week, who will compete in the Afterparty Showdown taking place in the following week.

Week 2
Week 2 will see a 12-team format taking part in the Afterparty Showdown, which will see the rest 6 teams from the chosen region, to be announced later. One team will be called in as a “special invite”. Week 2 will take place between the dates of 18th of August, 2022 till the 20th of August, 2022. These teams will be rooting for a share in the $1M USD.
A huge chunk of the prize pool will go to various humanitarian aid organizations across the world
Speaking of the prize pool, just like PMWI 2021, both tournaments were charity events, with the proceeds going to various humanitarian help organizations across the world. The PMWI East and West tournaments had a total prize pool of $1.5 million for contributions and $80,000 for teams participating in the tournaments. The Prize money was distributed to UNICEF, Gavi The Vaccine Alliance, Direct Relief, and International Medical Corps at the conclusion of the competitions.
