After spending a successful year in the esports scene of Wild Rift, Riot Games has now unveiled its plan for the next season, which is 2022. Fans will get to watch a lot of events including major, qualifier, and global. Ahead of the new 2022 season, the Latin America region will start its competitive journey with the Wild Rift Open Latinoamerica (also known as WOL or Wild Rift Open LATAM).
Wild Rift Open LATAM 2022: Tournament format and schedule
The event is divided into three different stages, namely the open qualifiers, the group stage, and the playoffs. Here are the details of each stage. More can be found here.
Open qualifiers
Three open qualifiers will be held in each sub-region is the North and the South. Teams will achieve qualification points based on their positions in these qualifiers. And finally, the top eight teams will advance to the next round.
- Open qualifier one: February 4 to 10
- Open qualifier two: February 11 to 17
- Open qualifier three: February 18 to 24
Group Stage
Eight teams from each region will face each other separately in their respective league. The online group stage will start from February 1 to run from April 15. Teams will fight in double-round robin matches following a Bo3 format. The top 4 teams of each league will advance to the playoffs.
Playoffs
The final stage will be held offline. Starting from May 2, teams will compete in double-elimination matches. The grand finals on May 8 will follow a Bo7 format where the other matches of the playoffs will be played in Bo5.
Wild Rift Open LATAM 2022: Event seed and prize pool
After the grand finals, the champion team will directly qualify to the Icons Global Championship while the runner-up will join the play-ins. A total of $50,000 will be spread among the teams where the two finalists will get a decent share.
Final thoughts
While Riot is planning to expand the Wild Rift esports scene in the rest of the regions, these new events will surely deliver more intense action and will bring out new powerhouses. Besides, the event continues its role with the second season starting from November 2022.
