S8UL Esports reaches another milestone in Pokémon UNITE esports and wins the Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2024 India Qualifier. The team has won back-to-back India Qualifier championships. Winning the event has placed the team into the upcoming World Championship 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

S8UL wins Pokémon UNITE 2024 India Qualifier by showing ultimate dominance

S8UL Esports has become the champion after dominating the whole event. The team didn’t lose a single match and showed its supremacy over the Indian esports scene. In the upper bracket quarterfinals, the first match S8UL faced was against Team No Tilt in which the result stood a 2-0 scoreline.

Moving to the semifinals, Six Uppermoon was ready to throw a challenge at the champion but lost the game with the same scoreline of 2-0. However, S8UL emerged as the winner of the upper bracket final with a scoreline of 2-1 against Zenigame Squad. While the losing team went to the lower bracket final, S8UL was waiting for its opponent at the grand final.

Zenigame Squad faced off against GodLike, another sensation of Indian esports, in the lower bracket final. The team defeated GodLike by 2-1 and went up to the finals to meet S8UL again. As the race to the championship title and also for a spot in the World Championship 2024 began, champion S8UL again made the same scoreline as the team did in the upper bracket finals. Without looking back, the champion team carried their winning momentum to emerge as the champion for the second time in a row.

S8UL Esports wins a decent share of the prize pool and awaits the world-stage fight

Featuring a huge stack of $37,500 prize pool, the event was co-hosted by Skyesports, and The Pokémon Company. Becoming the champion has earned S8UL a sweet spot at the 2024 World Championship. Moreover, the team pocketed $15,000 by becoming the champion. The runner-up won $7,500 while the third-placed team GodLike bagged another $6,000. As the qualification is over now, S8UL will be getting ready to fly to the island of Hawaii to represent India on the world stage.

Before commencing the grand finals, the Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2024, India Qualifier started taking registration on the 12th of April 2024. The grand final stage, however, took place on the 12th of May 2024.

Trident Gaming is a new esports and gaming solutions company co-founded by Sunny “Fea” Lohia and Abhijeet “Ghatak” Andhare. Both are industry experts and popular faces with several years of experience in the Indian esports scene. Using the knowledge they earned throughout the journey so far, a new optimistic approach saw the light, the resulting foundation of Trident Gaming. In GamingonPhone’s recent interview with Trident Gaming, they shared an exclusive peek into the Indian esports scene. In our talk, other issues like sustainability, future, community culture, etc. also came up.

1. Fea, let’s start with you. Tell us about your stance on the mobile esports scene in India. Where does it currently stand, what do you envision after experiencing various organizations and brands, and the path ahead along with your thoughts on its future?

Fea: There are two problems with mobile esports in India at the moment. Firstly, it’s too dependent on one game: BGMI. Secondly, for grassroots players, there are very few chances for them to go pro or compete with the best.

We are looking to address both these problems. Our grassroots-level initiatives will focus on community building, which we will leverage to grow other games. Secondly, our grassroots tournaments have been designed in such a way that every gamer has lots of chances to prove themselves and go pro. We will also be nurturing promising talent to aid them in their journey to become esports stars.

2. What are your thoughts on banter in the community?

Ghatak: Esports is all about engagement. Keeping viewers engaged, providing fans a team to root for always, and making sure aspiring players have tournaments to play in. As such, banter is also good to a certain extent as it boosts engagement. I am talking about friendly banter to fuel rivalries. Unfortunately, in our community, sometimes, even banter is called being toxic. I hope that will change as our esports community continues to mature and develop further.

3. The Indian scene is good so far but without a global touch, your game just feels like a domestic league. The intensity of global events is on another level and India is very much missing it. The last PMGC didn’t feature any Indian teams though we thought we would watch a slot from direct invitation. So, where’s the path leading us? When will this chain break? PUBG Mobile already announced its 2024 roadmap.

Fea: [Laughs] Unfortunately, that isn’t an answer that we can give you, and rests with the decisions of KRAFTON and Tencent. Yes, international events are very important for a game’s overall roadmap. I am hopeful that we will get to see BGMI teams competing internationally in the future.

But, new games like Honor of Kings are coming, which could also send international representatives internationally. Besides this, we have Pokémon Unite and COD Mobile offering our players a chance to represent the country.

4. You said in a recent interview that people aren’t watching the damage being dealt to the grassroots level. What is Trident Gaming expecting to solve the issue? I mean, will we see Trident do something that relaxes the young players so that they can feel no damage is coming to their study or life goals? While hiring young talents who still go to school or college, how will Trident back them?

Fea: Yes, this is an issue people don’t understand and many say that there are official and unofficial open-for-all tournaments happening. However, in these competitions, it’s usually just one or two matches that players have to give their all or get eliminated.

Our scrims will ensure players can compete across several matches to decide who moves on to the next stage.

In terms of your other question, we would never recommend leaving behind studies to pursue esports full-time because it is a volatile industry. Just look at the bans on BGMI and Free Fire so we never know what is in store. However, for promising talent, we will guide them to become better and give them proper coaching plus resourcing while ensuring that they stay dedicated to their education.

5. “Trident Gaming is the one-stop destination for esports and gaming solutions.” Also, “It wants to address the key industry challenges and at the same time invite brands to achieve their esports goals by joining hands with Trident”. So basically, Trident is going to launch tournaments at the college level and also wants to solve the key challenges. How will it become possible? Share your vision.

Ghatak: Yes, we are aiming to be the one-stop destination for esports and gaming solutions. We will be launching grassroots and college initiatives, identifying stars, and helping top organizations on international organizations looking to enter India with talent scouting.

Fea: Besides this, we will also be working with existing TOs and esports organizations in the space to connect them with brands. Usually, the case is that brands don’t know how to approach esports. We will be able to be the bridge that connects them with the wider industry through education and awareness.

6. So, Sunny we know that you have been working with some leading organizations and brands connected very closely to the Indian Esports scene. And of course, you know their culture and organizational behavior. How will you incorporate good cultures and a healthy environment at each stage like events, teams, etc.? Is there a similar vision from both of you and Ghatak that you talked about or if not, what will be the approach then?

Fea: We at Trident believe in being for the community and by the community. For this answer, I would like to focus on the by-the-community part. For our founding team, we have hired candidates who have worked for years in the industry and me and Ghatak know personally. We have developed a friendly and homely environment in the company.

7. Kronten said neither Ghatak nor GodL left each other. It was the vision that created the separation. So, when Ghatak figured out he had plans for something else.

Ghatak: I wanted to start a company like Trident for a very long time and right now felt like the correct time. So I decided to leave GodLike Esports.

8. Fea, will we see Trident acquire any roster (any title it may be) or launch their in-house starts? What is going to be the first step in this journey? Let me add something here as well, you founded esports network but that is at a halt for many days. How do you think Trident will sustain for a longer period?

Fea: Esports Network wasn’t at a halt. We were continuously doing white-label events, which we will continue to do now but under Trident’s umbrella.

Challenges in Indian Gaming and Esports Industry Trident Gaming Interview

In terms of acquiring a roster, we probably won’t. While we might get to see our academy players sometimes competing in tournaments, the end goal is for them to go on to become stars at other established esports organizations. However, we will likely be the managers for these players, helping them each step of the way while facilitating brand deals for them.

9. ORB, Entity, GodL…the journey that can create a book. Thank you, Ghatak and Fea for marking a distinct presence in the esports industry. We appreciate your time, effort, and contribution. Coming to the questions, how long do you think BGMI will reign? Great titles are coming up and especially if PUBG Mobile faces any threat from other titles, it is going to be MOBA games. Considering all the games, all the events, and everything, what is the future of mobile gaming in India, you can tell from the South Asian scene that Nepal and Pakistan played important roles after the ban in India. Now, BD teams are also coming up.

Ghatak: Thank you for the kind words. The future is set to be very exciting in the country and MOBA titles could be one area to look out for, especially with the release of Honor of Kings later this year in the country. We also have Free Fire India coming up soon. All these will aid in the growth of mobile gaming.

One trend to look out for in the coming months and years though is the penetration into tier 2 and tier 3 markets. BGMI and other present esports are more heavily concentrated in tier-1 cities. As India grows, I expect to see growth fueled by other untapped markets.

The scenario for Brawl Stars esports in the Asia Pacific region has changed this year. India and East Asia are now together and formed the APAC region. Thus, there will be direct slots to the World Finals 2024. Keeping this opportunity ahead, teams are now putting in more time and investment into taking players to the team to form a perfect roster to take the upcoming challenges. After spending a successful year in 2023, Revenant Esports is also ready to take on the next challenge and announced its latest Brawl Stars Roster for 2024.

Two Japanese sensations have lightened the team with another battle-tested soldier Sergeant Clash. “It was imperative for us to scout talent from the entire region and we landed on Ken-G and Menmi”, says Rohit Jagasia, the CEO of Revenant Esports. Now, as the roster will face the challenges coming ahead, we’ll take a close look at what the future may bring. We’ll be putting the APAC scenario into the main stage and trying to understand the surroundings after the team leaves for a challenge.

Revenant Esports Brawl Stars Roster for 2024

The roster is comprised of three players and a coach. The two Japanese are very experienced and have a renowned career. Ex-Chasmac player Ken-G and former REJECT squadmate Menmi are on the team. Besides, the new coach is also announced. Revenant Esports’ Brawl Stars roster for 2024 is as follows:

  • Ashmit “Sergeant Clash” Singh
  • Takuya “Menmi” Kitano
  • Kenji “Ken-G” Oda
  • Karthikk “Kizuki” Adithiyha S: Analyst

The previous year’s performance is one of the key reasons why the organization just stood up with a bigger target keeping in front. Last year, India was regarded as a region in Brawl Stars but the furthest that any team could qualify from the country was the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) in Katowice, Poland. While the other major regions were receiving direct slots to the World Finals, Indian teams had to go through the LCQ, and only one slot was fixed for India.

However, Revenant took the opportunity and won four of the six Monthly Finals, making them the top contender from India to the LCQ. The team then defeated Reconic Esports SA in the Golden Ticket Matches and went to the World Finals.

A fresh start for the team yet a peek into the promising future

This year, the Brawl Stars World Finals 2024 will take two teams from the Asia Pacific for direct slots in the grand finals. The rest two teams in the top four will qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier. However, with a strong in-house team, the organization can look forward to qualifying in the grand event. The roster is a perfect fit for challenging the top teams and Revenant is planning to get it done.

The path isn’t easy as APAC has teams like Crazy Raccoon, and Natus Vincere as contenders. With our revamped lineup featuring the talented Menmi and Ken-G, I am confident that we have what it takes to make it to the Brawl Stars World Finals once again despite the tougher format which has decreased the overall number of slots, said Sergeant Clash from Revenant Esports.

No wonder that looking for the opportunity to become one of two teams is the motivation for taking a step forward that resulted in this latest roster. Not only does this pave the way to introduce more cross-border players into a team but it also marks the evergrowing capacity of Indian teams on the global stage.

Supercell’s popular strategy title will soon witness the rise of Indian teams on the world stage and this is just the beginning. Taking into the team from one of the toughest regions and as the players are filled with expertise and experience, the days coming ahead will create hype for the fans as well. We’ll also witness massive growth in their brand name.

The Esports scenario for the APAC region is looking for a fresh start in 2024

Brawl Stars has changed the whole of its esports scenario in this year, 2024. Following the esports in 2023, the direct slots were from the EMEA, NA East, NA West, SA East, East Asia, and Chinese Mainland. But this year, the game has made 5 regions overall and each has direct slots to the World Finals. While this decision led to the merger of a few regions, the competition is now at its highest.

By just considering the APAC region, we’ll know the impact of the change. It has become a game changer in this area as there will be no place to stay behind now. Revenant Esports is just the first one to walk along the way from this part of the world. The team also sent a message to the other APAC teams that they need to be prepared if want to exist in this field.

Brawl Stars World Championship 2024 cover, Brawl Stars World Championship

Before, it was mostly the home teams that used to participate in the monthly qualifiers and finals. The scenario has now changed and there will no longer be places for the teams that do not keep focus on the ongoing and changing scene. Thus, the APAC region is adding a game-changing thrill to the overall Brawl Stars esports scene.

More teams are likely to follow in the footsteps of Revenant Esports

Japanese players dominate the APAC region and this is more or less a fact. So, to cope with the players and even maintaining the standards is also a thing to think about. Though it is not new for teams to sign overseas players even Revenant had Prime and Response from Singapore, and Shafin from Bangladesh.

In the previous year or even before that, the path wasn’t so easy to reach the top height of Brawl Stars esports after fighting the big giants. A team needed to cross many a mile to reach the formidable place. However, as now India is merged into the APAC region and there is endless possibility lying ahead, more teams are likely to follow the lead. India is operating as one of the largest mobile esports markets and teams will no longer take time to grab this opportunity in Brawl Stars.

Because so many players are moving up from casual to mid- and hard-core games, the esports market in the nation is expected to grow organically.
