Marvel Super War, the action-packed MOBA title from NetEase has announced its decision to shut down on June 27, 2024. Hyped upon release as Marvel’s first MOBA title, the game never saw the light with its global release and now will be ending service before fulfilling its potential that was promised five years ago.

Adjustments in their development cited as the reason for MARVEL Super War EOS

MARVEL Super War is a free-to-play 3D, third-person MOBA game by Marvel and NetEase Games, launched on December 19, 2019. Players engage in 5v5 battles with superheroes and Villains from the Marvel Universe, featuring characters like Iron Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Deadpool. The game emphasized fair combat with no pay-to-win elements and balanced gameplay.

Coming to the reason for the end of service, the makers mentioned in their official announcement post that due to adjustments in their game development and operation strategies, they had to make this difficult decision to shut down the MARVEL Super War. As I previously mentioned, the game’s service will conclude on June 27, 2024, and this process is already underway.

Starting April 18, 2024, MARVEL Super War was no longer available for download on any official App Stores, and in-game purchases and new user registrations were suspended. The game servers will officially close on July 18, 2024. After this date, all account data and character information will be deleted.

As a way of showing appreciation for players’ support, NetEase has unlocked all heroes and skins for all game modes except ranked mode. Players are invited to enjoy the game until the very end. Well, it is sad that a game with a popular IP to back it had to exit early, but here’s hoping we get an even better game in the future as a replacement.

Welcome to the second edition of Marvel Super War tier list. We’re about halfway through Season 1, but the players have had enough of heroes, updates and all. So here, we’ll be going through each role individually so as to avoid confusion and to give you a proper understanding of the Marvel Super War February 2020 tier list.

Disclaimer: This tier list is opinionated, with some feedback from several other players. Feel free to argue about the positions of the heroes in their tiers.

Jungler

TierHero
S: OverpoweredCaptain America, Proxima Midnight, Emma Frost
A: StrongBlack Panther, Beast, Quicksilver, Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Star-Lord
B: GoodBlack Widow, Lady Sif, Mister Fantastic, Spider-Man, Ghost, Blade, Ancient One
C: FairCorvus Glaive
  • Spider-Man has been nerfed to oblivion and he doesn’t feel as strong as he was in pre-season. Still a viable pick, but there are better alternatives than him now.
  • Captain America was nerfed as well, from super OP to OP. Still one of the strongest fighters in the game with amazing jungle clear speed and efficient ganking abilities.
  • Proxima Midnight is very underused but people don’t realise that she’s an amazing assassin with a high skill capacity. A good Proxima Midnight can completely dominate the game because of her AoE CC abilities and ultimate that executes low HP targets.
  • Lady Sif is really good as an assassin, but the problem is that her jungle clear speed is too slow. She may starve early game and as a jungler, you would want to avoid that. She is a lot better as a fighter in the top lane.

Top Lane

TierHero
SAnt-Man, Deadpool, Mister Fantastic, Hulk, The Thing, Lady Sif
ACorvus Glaive, Executioner, Heimdall, Namor, Ronan, Cull Obsidian, Ancient One, Captain America
BBlade, Captain Marvel
CGroot, Sandman
  • Ant-Man‘s minion clear speed is mediocre, but his skills allow him to be a powerhouse against the enemy’s top laner. He can enlarge himself to do massive AoE damage, or minimize himself to escape ganks. His ultimate also allows him to deal damage to towers really fast.
  • Ancient One is weak early game but her tankiness and sustain in the mid to late game makes her very good as a top laner. A good Ancient One can easily snipe a key enemy hero (like the Marksman) and switch places with them, thus allowing a 4v5 teamfight.
  • Groot may be a decent support, but he’s not a very good top laner. Other heroes like Captain America or Deadpool can out-poke him and deal damage to Groot without being damaged themselves.

Mid Lane

TierHero
SJubilee, Scarlet Witch, Magneto
ALoki, Iceman, Iron Man, Human Torch, Storm, Doctor Strange
BEmma Frost, Ancient One, Ebony Maw
  • Jubilee‘s range is absurd and coupling that with her immense DPS and mobility makes her one of the best mages in the game. She is able to deal damage and kite those who are close to her with her stuns and with her ultimate, she can deal massive damage to multiple targets at once.
  • Scarlet Witch and Magneto are the mages with the most burst potential in their kit. Within a split second, they can obliterate a target if they aren’t careful enough. They each have their own protection against ganks too, with both of them having a knockback skill and ultimates with amazing crowd control.
  • Ebony Maw is listed as a support in game, but he can actually be a decent pick for mid lane because he is able to manifest himself into his enemy and regenerate lost HP while dealing damage and heavy CC to those around his host.
  • Human Torch is the best example of “high risk, high reward”. He can be absolutely unstoppable if he continuously lands his triangles on marked enemies. If not, he’s just a sitting duck. The whole point of Human Torch is to stall for time until his S2 is up for use again. If you can’t aim well or continuously land S2 on enemies, he would be a low tier hero.

Bot Lane (Marksman)

TierHero
SRocket Raccoon, Star-Lord
AAngel, Yondu
BHawkeye
CWar Machine
  • Rocket Raccoon is a team killer with his AoE basic attacks. He’s also really mobile and can easily escape danger with his acceleration buff on S2. If the team fails to kill Rocket Raccoon fast, they may find themselves getting melted by him in return. His passive also increases his attack range which significantly gives him a power spike once you decide to upgrade it.
  • Star-Lord is so annoying to kill. His acceleration just makes him impossible to catch, and on top of that, he can use his S1 and basic attacks while moving. His ultimate allows him to deal immense damage in teamfights and clear waves really fast. Since nobody would be stupid enough to stand in his ultimate, it also makes as a really good zoning tool.
  • Yondu can pierce through enemies with his needle and kick those who get near him. One drawback is that his basic attacks aren’t like your typical MOBA heroes’. You have to constantly aim and use your S1 wisely to stun enemies. The best thing about Yondu is that you can attack while moving, so you can kite enemies really easily or chase enemies without stopping to attack. If you can’t consistently aim and hit basic attacks, Yondu would be the worst Marksman in the game.
  • War Machine was buffed in the last patch, but he’s still very weak. Although his skills are weak, he can still take down towers fast with his S2 and escape danger with his S3. His ultimate is a good zoning tool but he’s just a still target once he activates it, so use your S3 wisely. All in all, there are better options out there than War Machine.

Support

TierHero
SThe Thing, Namor, Hulk
ACull Obsidian, Groot, Mantis, Ebony Maw
BRonan, Heimdall
CCloak & Dagger, Sandman, Thanos
  • Yes, Thanos as a support is viable but not recommended. He has decent CC and can be a meat shield for the Marksman. Besides that, he has nothing to offer for ganking and/or healing.
  • Cloak & Dagger has the potential to be a good support because of her AoE heal, but her S3 takes too long to appear. By the time Cloak appears to silence enemies, they’ve already escaped the area. Her ultimate is good too because it saves low HP allies, but it may also cause death because those in Cloak cannot move. Enemies can simply wait till the target reappears and kill them.
  • The three in the S tier are very tanky and can provide very good CC to kill the enemy Marksman during ganks. Hulk can lockdown and thrash a single enemy, Namor can keep enemies within a zone, and The Thing can stun the entire team with his ultimate’s wide radius.

Marvel Super War is garnering fame in the soft-launch counties, and the devs will hopefully release it globally very soon. We have been playing the game a lot, and we think this Marvel Super War Class Guide will be helpful to beginners and those who are new to MOBAs in general. So, let us go through each class of Marvel Super War to guide you with the basics.

Marvel Super War Class Guide

There are 6 total classes in Marvel Super War – Tank, Assassin, Energy / Power, Marksman, Fighter, and Support. All of these classes play a different role in battles. We’ll learn about each of them below. I have listed the best heroes in each class, but if you’re looking for details, check out our tier list of Marvel Super War.

1. Tank

Recommended Build: Defense item builds

tank class marvel super war
The Thing – Marvel Super War

Tanks are the meatshields in this game. They are frontline heroes and have a huge amount of HP. They are generally played in the top lane. In team fights, they are the ones who absorb a lot of damage. Their teammates stay behind them and target enemies so that the enemies will have a huge obstacle in their path. The best tanks in Marvel Super War at the moment are Hulk, The Thing, and Namor. Hulk literally picks up and smashes his enemies into the ground, while Thing turns into a boulder and knocks them up. Namor, though, has a different, unique ability – A whirlpool that pulls in enemy heroes. This helps his teammates to finish them off and gain an upper hand in battle. They, as expected of a Tank, use the Defense item builds to increase Armor.

2. Assassin

Recommended Build: Jungling item builds

assassin class marvel super war
Best – Marvel Super War

Assassins can carry a game by themselves. If they’re supported by decent teammates, a great Assassin player will be unstoppable. They jungle, that is, they farm different buffs for their team. Assassins “roam and support”, meaning that they farm buffs, and if they see a potential KO, they swoop in and finish off the enemy. They can have a very big impact on the outcome of a game. They have to constantly be on the lookout for enemy heroes, and if anyone is stealing their jungle kills. an Assassin to quickly level up to 4 by jungling, to unlock their ultimate attack. Most of the time, teams with better Assassins win more games. Some of the best Assassins in-game at the moment are Beast, Ghost, Captain Marvel, and Quicksilver. They use the Jungling item builds to farm quickly.

3. Power / Energy

Recommended Build: Energy item builds

mage class, iron man in msw
Iron Man – Marvel Super War

Power class heroes see a lot of action throughout the game. Their job is to control the flow of enemy minions in the lanes and ensure that no enemy heroes get past them. Power class generally level up the fastest. This is because, as I said before, they have to continuously stem the flow of enemy minions. Now, a power class hero should try to stay in their lane and not divert to other lanes. They are ones who are suitable for the middle lane. Prominent power heroes at the moment include Jubilee, Magneto, Human Torch, Iron Man (Energy), and others. They use Energy item builds.

4. Marksman

Recommended Build: Speed item builds

marksman marvel super war
Rocket Raccoon – Marvel Super War

This is another class, besides Assassin, that can change a game single-handedly. They generally take the bottom lane in battle. but can also resort to jungling in case of the absence of a jungler. Marksmen are squishy heroes and need either a Tank or Support hero to help them. Alone, they can easily become fodder for enemy heroes. A Marksman’s job is to take out enemy towers in the bottom lane as quickly as possible, and then join team fights. A 1v1 between Marksmen is highly unlikely in the early game, whereas in the late game, it’s bound to happen. In such a scenario, Rocket Raccoon comes out on top. He is probably the best MM in-game right now, along with Angel, with Star-Lord being the second best. Marksmen use item builds that increase attacking speed and movement speed.

5. Fighter

Recommended Build: Attack and Defense item builds

fighter class marvel super war
Captain Marvel – Marvel Super War

Fighters are heroes that can play the parts of both mid-laner and top laner. If you don’t have a Mage or Tank, but you have Fighters in your team, you can ask them to assume either of the above roles. Some Fighters are even suitable for Jungling and farming, like Mr. Fantastic. So, you can see that Fighters can play a wide variety of roles, right from top laner to supporting the Marksmen in the bottom lane. Some of the best Fighters in-game at the moment are Captain America, Deadpool, Executioner, Blade, and others. They use mostly the Attack and Defense items to increase attack and gain Armor.

6. Support

Recommended Build: Healing and Defense item builds

support class marvel super war
Mantis – Marvel Super War

Support heroes are those that help other heroes. They support their teammates by either healing them, or by assisting them to kill enemies. Healers include Mantis and Cloak&Dagger, while Supports like Groot and Cull Obsidian isolate their enemies from their team and help their teammates to finish the enemy off. Mantis, Groot, and Cloak&Dagger generally help out Marksmen in the bottom lane, while Cull takes top lane. Groot and Cull can also tank for their team, hence they can be frontline heroes. Mantis is the most OP Support hero at the moment, and the team that has the more skilled Mantis has a greater chance of winning. Groot is another game-changer, with his ability to pull enemies, immobilize and stun them. Good Supports can easily have an influence on which side can win the match. They use healing and defense item builds.

Quicksilver (Very great in both early game and late game. His ultimate, if used correctly, can turn the tide of a battle completely. In short, he can single-handedly change the course of a match)
Angel

Rocket Raccoon

Jubilee

Magneto

Hulk

The Thing

Captain America (Even though he is nerfed, Cap is still a cut above his peers. His tanking capacity, better survivability, high damage and recovery take him to a whole new level)

Executioner (Has great survivability. Has the ability to beat even Captain America in a 1v1 fight)

Deadpool (Can become untargetable, and is often banned in the top tier matches. Pretty hard to kill due to excellent survivability)

Mantis

Groot (Isolates the enemy from the team, can immobilize them and can stun them. Ability to revive at the same spot allows him to immediately join the fight)
A: StrongBlack Panther

Proxima Midnight

Spider-Man

Emma Frost (Great abilities that are often overlooked. Can be S-Tier if played correctly)
Yondu (Has the potential to be S-tier if the user is good with him)

Star-Lord
Iron Man

Iceman

Storm

Human Torch (A bit hard to play, but very powerful when mastered. Great damage output and better survivability than those below him)

Scarlet Witch (Really great mid-laner with huge damage output and great CC, but not great survivability as compared to other mages above her)
Groot

Ant-Man (In his Giant-Man form, he can be a really good tank)

Ronan The Accuser

Namor

Blade (A great Fighter, but lacks the survivability and teamfight potential of Fighters above him)

Marvel Super War Season 1 Tierlist Explanation

The tier list is based on my experience in the game, that is, I have formulated the tier list according to both my observations and other statistics. So just in case you do not agree on some points, feel free to comment below and we will have a meaningful discussion.

January 2020 Patch Notes:

The game was updated a few days ago, and there were some nerfs and buffs. They were –

Nerfs: Spidey and Captain America’s dominance finally ends

Before the update, everyone’s go-to Assassin and jungler was Spider-Man, and Cap dominated the Fighter class.

After the nerfs, there was a considerable decrease in the use of Spidey, and Assassins like Black Panther and Ghost became more popular. As for Fighters, Cap America is still a good choice, but heroes like Corvus Glaive and Captain Marvel are seeing a lot more usage.

Buffs

Thor – The very first hero they buffed was Thor. He is probably one of the most balanced heroes in the game right now. His slight tweaks will help him to remain balanced and will help him to become a good asset in team fights.

War Machine – MSW devs were right in their FB post when they mentioned that WM is kind of weak right now. Compared to other great Marksmen like Rocket Raccoon and Angel, his attack damage output was very low, and he was strong only when he used his ultimate ability. So, they increased his main attack damage a little, along with decreasing the cooldown time of his ultimate. To conclude. I feel that Rhodey (War Machine’s real name) will gain relevance among the Marksmen because of these buffs.

Black Widow – Now, this is a buff which can prove to be OP. Not many use Black Widow at the moment because she is not anyone’s first choice to purchase in the shop. On top of that, she is an Assassin, and many Assassins except Black Panther are a bit difficult to master in this game. When she sees some play in the meta, we will update the tier list accordingly. Until then, we hope she does not prove to be as OP as Spidey was at first.

Conclusion

So, that’s it! That’s the tier list of Marvel Super War for season 1. It will be updated as soon as any changes are made or when any new heroes are added.

If you’re looking for more Marvel Super War, we’ve got you. If you’re in one of the soft-launch countries (India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore), you can download the game here (Android) and here (iOS).

The pre-season phase is about to get over and Marvel Super War Season 1 is coming very soon! This is what Marvel Super War’s team posted on their Facebook page earlier today:

https://www.facebook.com/MarvelSuperWar/photos/a.596610747513806/757556748085871/?type=3

We all know that the first “season” of any game always makes a huge impact on its community. The first season of a game has the ability to make or break its reputation. The release of Marvel Super War’s first season will be hyped up, as the game is said to be one of the toughest competitors to Mobile Legends Bang Bang. MLBB does have reason to worry, because MSW is a worthy opponent, with all the Marvel fans on its side. And due to the recent releases of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the superhero fervour is at an all-time high.

Marvel Super War Season 1: Trophy Ranges

Marvel Super War Season 1 will have trophy ranges in the following ascending order –

  1. Mighty Iron
  2. Fearless Bronze
  3. Superior Silver
  4. Immortal Gold
  5. Magnificent Platinum
  6. Unbeatable Diamond
  7. Invincible Hero
  8. Legendary Master
  9. Supreme Legendary Master

I must say, the names are great. “Immortal Gold” is from where tough fights begin, and the games are harder to win. The trophy ranges have 3 sub-levels, for example – Mighty Iron 1, 2, and 3. It’s the same for all the other ranges. There are bots in the earlier tiers, like Iron and Bronze, which means that these tiers will be easy to pass with a decent team.

My Personal Experience As a Soft-Launch Player:

Since the game is currently available in India, I got a chance to play it and test it out. If you want to know how the game fares in the world of mobile MOBAs, here’s our review. I have to say that it is probably the best MOBA I’ve ever played on mobile. The hero designs are great, as well as their voice-overs. All the heroes play different roles, with each role being equally important. I main (use) the Marksman and Assassin class, which can have a very big impact on the outcome of the battle. Hawkeye, Angel, Yondu, and Rocket Raccoon are great Marksmen, while Spider-Man, Quicksilver, Ghost and Black Panther are the best Assassins in the game at the moment. I am sure that there are many more to come in the Arena, and all of them will have a different effect on the meta.

The first weekly update of Marvel Super War for January is here. There’s a new character and new hero rotation in the Arena. Read on to find out more about the new entrant and other changes!

New Hero Rotation in the Marvel Super War Weekly Update

Starting at 5:00 a.m on 1/2/2020 (Thursday), the new hero rotation in 5v5 arena is Corvus Glaive, Storm, Cull Obsidian, Captain Marvel, Yondu, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, and Rocket Raccoon. This week will see a lot of experiments, that is, new strategies, new comps, and new gameplay.

Gold Compensation To Players

When I logged into the game today, I saw that I got some gold and hero clues as compensation. I wondered what it was about, and saw their FB post to find out more. I saw this:

This meant that because NetEase improved level-up rewards after players started playing, they compensated players in gold. So, open up your game and collect the free gold right now!

Marvel Super War New Hero: Ghost

Yes, the Ghost from “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is in the game! She is an Assassin, which means that she is a bit hard to master. But once you get the hang of her abilities, she can be really deadly. Here are some details about Ghost,

Ghost is a relatively versatile hero. She can switch forms to become either invisible or invincible and can pass through terrain when in an altered state. It is vital that Ghost utilizes movement speed and ability effects to pass through her enemies multiple times, adding marks to her targets, which she can then detonate using her basic attacks.

Here are her powers and abilities:

Passive Ability

  • Natural Passive: Quantum Corrosion – When Ghost passes through enemies, she afflicts them with the Quantum Corrosion effect for a certain period of time. When she targets enemies with Quantum Corrosion once more, or when Ghost uses basic attacks against them during this period, the Quantum Corrosion effect detonates, damaging enemies and accelerating Ghost’s movement speed.
  • If Ghost uses abilities to pass through her enemies, the range of her next basic attack will increase. If she doesn’t pass through an enemy when using her abilities, she’ll only be able to apply the Quantum Corrosion effect once within a short space of time.

Active Abilities

  • Ability 1: Quantum Positioning
  • Ghost launches a positioning device in the specified direction, dealing damage and slowing down enemies in its path. During this, she also afflicts them with Quantum Corrosion.
  • Ghost can use this ability again to phase to the positioning device’s location.
  • Ability 2: Quantum Shuttle
  • She enters a state of quantum disequilibrium for a period of time and leaves a shadow in place. During this, she gains a high acceleration effect, ignores terrain, and is un-targetable. This state is cancelled when she uses basic attacks.
  • When in that state, Ghost deals damage to enemies she passes through. After this state ends, she recalls her shadow. Enemies her shadow passes through take damage, and experience her passive effect.
  • Ultimate Ability: Quantum Field
  • Ghost opens a Quantum Field at a designated location. After entering the field, she becomes invisible, gains an acceleration effect, and can pass through terrain. Attacking enemies will cancel her invisibility effect, and she’ll be unable to turn invisible again for a short period of time.
  • Every time Ghost enters this quantum field, it will reset the cooldown of Quantum Positioning and extend the field’s duration. The field’s duration can only be extended once within a certain period of time.
  • If she uses this ability again in succession, she will return to the Quantum Field’s center.

Other information in this Week’s Update

  • New Archangel Skin – Angel’s new “Archangel” skin is now available in the shop! All players can now purchase it.
  • Optimized some Gauntlet quests and rewards for engaging new players, meanwhile, players who have already completed these quests will have new quests and rewards unlocked.
  • Removed the limit on times that a player can open both Dark Star and Brilliant Caskets each day.

Marvel Super War is a new Marvel MOBA on Android and iOS, launched in December. Like other MOBAs, it features 5v5 battles on a map featuring 3 main lanes and jungle, a standard among MOBAs. It features many of the popular Marvel characters, that is, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and others. In this Marvel Super War review, we will discuss everything in details.

Heroes in Marvel Super War

Reading the name, you’ll know that this game features many of the well-known characters from the Marvel Universe. You can choose from among the various superheroes and villains available for selection. All of them have a passive trait, 2 to 3 active abilities, and an ultimate, that is, a “super” attack. Examples are Hulk’s ability to smash his opponent repeatedly on the ground as he did to Loki in “The Avengers” movie. While other MOBAs tend to fall behind a bit on character-building, NetEase nailed it.

Graphics in Marvel Super War

Graphically, the game looks amazing. The level of detail on all of the characters is simply mind-boggling. You can tell that NetEase carefully studied the characters. The characters are very comic-accurate, that is, the comic fans will surely appreciate it. The environment also looks very nice and polished, and it definitely looks a lot better than most of the other MOBAs on mobile. Also, the spell effects are very well done and they are (marvel)ous to look at.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very basic. By looking at the game, you can say that NetEase took all the best ingredients from existing MOBAs and added some spice of their own. In terms of gameplay, the game is similar to Arena Of Valor, a MOBA by Tencent. We say this because the interface and controls are pretty much identical, with a few minor differences. The gameplay is also very smooth, animations are fluid, abilities are natural and well-polished.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is one of the most important aspects of any game. If a game has an atmosphere according to the genre, it feels great to play it. NetEase has done a great job in setting up the atmosphere of Super War. You’ll feel like a hero or villain from the Marvel Universe while playing. There is music in-game, but it does not distract you from the gameplay, instead, it provides detail to the game. The sound effects are awesome, with the voice acting being the cherry on the cake.

Cons/Flaws of Marvel Super War

There is no game that does not have flaws, and Marvel Super War is no exception. As stated before, the voice acting is great, but it could be better for some characters. Another con is the character power level imbalance. While playing some characters, you’ll feel they are overpowered, while some other characters will make you feel helpless. This ruins the fun in certain situations. Hopefully, NetEase irons out these creases in the upcoming updates.

Conclusion

Overall, we feel that the Marvel Super War is a fun and addicting MOBA. There are flaws, but they can be easily fixed. This game has lots of potentials and can be crowned as the best MOBA in the market.
