Age of Empires Mobile global version is officially announced

Teaser showcased during the 25th anniversary livestream

After a long hiatus, Age of Empires is arriving on Mobile. The last time the fans had their AoE Mobile experience was during the Windows Phone era with Age of Empires: Castle Siege which was later shut down by Microsoft. Today during the Age of Empires’ 25th-anniversary livestream Microsoft finally announced a new version of Age of Empires.

The 20 seconds teaser that showcased the AoE Mobile global version has the exact same vibe as Age of Empires 4. Nothing was revealed except a village scene with cavalry troops passing by.

A Chinese version of AoE is already out

It may surprise many fans that there is already a Chinese version of AoE Mobile, Return to Empire has been out for a while. Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios and World’s Edge Studio teamed up with Tencent’s TiMi Studios to develop that. It is a 4x strategy game with an authentic Age experience.

However, for now, from the AoE 25th anniversary stream, we can notice that only World’s Edge is working on developing the mobile version. If the AoE Mobile that is showcased today is the same global version of that Chinese version is still unknown. But its quite unlikely that both will be different since Tencent’s TiMi has proved its expertise in delivering big Console IPs on mobile.

Age of Empires Mobile release date

Nothing has been revealed except the 20-second teaser, not even a proper gameplay. But considering the general development cycle of a mobile game, we might hear something about the Age of Empires Mobile release in early 2023. And if the fans are lucky enough, there should be an open beta testing by the end of 2023. But please note, no information regarding the release date of AoE Mobile has been official until now.
