List of Console and PC Games ported to Mobile

This is a list to help gamers enjoy some quality PC games that have been ported to Mobile. Most of these games are premium (one-time purchase) games but they are well worth the cost and often go on sale as well. Here’s a list of the games ported from Console or PC to Mobile in no particular order.

Grand Theft Auto III

Which gamer doesn’t know about the Grand Theft Auto franchise? When it came out, GTA III was met with a lot of praise and critical acclaim (and also some criticism for its rather inappropriate gameplay). It’s an actionadventure game and is played from a third-person perspective. It was the first time that a game from the franchise was going to be converted into a 3D world.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • Release on Mobile: 6 October 2012

The next game from the Grand Theft Auto series is again something of a household name for gamers. The game is set in 1986 in the fictional Vice City (which is based in Miami) and is played in a third-person perspective. Like its predecessor, the game received positive reviews and applause for its music, gameplay, and open-world design but also sparked some controversies because of certain inappropriate aspects of the game.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

  • Release on Mobile: December 2013

When it came out, San Andreas was again praised a lot for its story, gameplay, and music but was criticized for its controls, graphics, and inappropriate content. The story follows the adventures of Carl “CJ” Johnson in an open world. Ever since its release, the game has been termed one of the greatest games of all time.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

  • Publisher: Rockstar Games
  • Release on Mobile: December 2015

The next Grand Theft Auto game we have on our list was a sequel to GTA III and the first 3D game to be released for handheld devices. The game which takes place in Liberty City (loosely based in New York City) was met with relatively good reviews from critics. The game also had a multiplayer mode for 6 players through WiFi ad-hoc mode but that sadly didn’t make it to the PS2 and Mobile versions.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

  • Publisher: Rockstar Games
  • Release on Mobile: January 2010 (iOS); December 2014 (Android)

This game was also set in Liberty City but had a rotatable camera pointed down at the playing area instead of an over the shoulder perspective. Like the other GTA games we’ve talked about so far, the game received praise but did have controversial aspects. The game’s design was meant to cater to audiences who have devices with touchscreens and for the most part, succeeded at doing its job.

Minecraft

  • Publisher: Mojang Studios, Xbox studios
  • Pocket edition (Mobile release): August 2011

Ah good old Minecraft. Which gamer doesn’t know about the best selling game of all time? Minecraft has also been considered by a large majority to be the best game of all time and has received a lot of praise, especially for the creative freedom it offers to players. Despite having such a simple design and feel to it, the game keeps drawing players to it and hundreds of millions of copies of the game have been sold. It also has a bunch of spinoffs now and a huge fan following.

League of Legends: Wild Rift

  • Release on Mobile: Coming soon

League of Legends, the popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) is finally making an entry into the mobile gaming world and mobile gamers across the world couldn’t be excited enough. The original game released for PC a little more than a decade ago was met with positive reviews and is still a fan favourite with a devoted following. League of Legends: Wild Rift is making its entry on mobile, the expectations are definitely high.

DOOM

  • Publisher: GT Interactive Software
  • Release on Mobile: 2009 (iOS), 2019 (Android)

Keep in mind that YouTube, the place where most game publishers release trailers wasn’t even around when the original game was launched.

DOOM is considered the pioneering game for first-person shooters. It has almost been three decades since the game’s release and if you would compare it to today’s first-person shooters, the difference is baffling and shows how far we’ve come. Back when it was released on IBM compatible computers it introduced features like 3D graphics, third dimension speciality, networked multiplayer, and support for a player designed modifications to these computers for the first time.

Bully

  • Publisher: Rockstar Games
  • Release on Mobile: December 2016

Another game by Rockstar which got a lot of praise is Bully. In this game, which is an open world with a third-person perspective, you take on a school system and try to put an end to bullying. Despite being based on school, this game is totally not for kids and like other games by Rockstar, faced scrutiny for having inappropriate content. The game did get a lot of praise for the game’s missions and narrative.

Terraria

  • Publisher: 505 Games
  • Release on Mobile: August 2013

Terraria is another game met with positive reviews and follows gameplay that revolves around exploration, mining, building, combat, and survival. The game is based on a 2D 16-bit graphical style and is quite similar to Minecraft in a lot of ways. The game was well-received by fans and critics and has quite a devoted fan following till now.

Max Payne

  • Publisher: Gathering of Developers
  • Release on Mobile: April 2012

Known for its action sequences, Max Payne was met with positive reviews from critics and players. Sure the movies were a bit disappointing and so were the sequels. But the game was still an enjoyable experience and the story was pretty engaging. The game had some great cutscenes and the voice acting was pretty decent.

Limbo

  • Publisher: Playdead, Microsoft Game Studios
  • Mobile release: July 2013 (iOS), February 2015 (Android)

Limbo is such a beautiful game. Anyone who has a copy and has played through would know how good the lighting and atmosphere look. The game was praised by critics and players and for its graphics, puzzles, and overall simplistic look. Despite this, some people felt that the length to price ratio was a problem and a few other aspects were also criticized.

Erica

  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Mobile Release: January 2021 (iOS only)

Erica is an interactive fictional thriller in which players step into the shoes of Erica Mason and try to find the hidden truth behind her family’s dark and occult past. The game reviewed mixed reviews but was an overall fun play. As you go through, the game has a decent amount of twists and does catch your attention. As of now, the release is iOS exclusive.

DOOM II: Hell on Earth

  • Publisher: GT Interactive Software
  • Release on Mobile: July 2019

The second installment of the DOOM series, this sequel to the original DOOM game wasn’t too different from its prequel but a lot of players and critics felt that the game actually refined the features of DOOM. You step into the shoes of the Space Marine popularly known as Doomguy. When it came out, the game was a bestseller and instantly gained a lot of traction among gamers.

Death Road to Canada

  • Publisher: Rocketcat Games, Ukiyo Publishing Limited, Noodlecake Studios
  • Mobile release: March 2017

For all the lovers of the zombie genre, Death Road to Canada is a must-play. The game is a Randomly Generated Road Trip simulator with hordes of slow zombies thrown in. The game garnered positive reviews from its players and critics and continues to get updates from time to time.

Brawlhalla

  • Publisher: Blue Mammoth Games, Ubisoft, Xaviant
  • Release on Mobile: August 2020

When it came out, Brawlhalla received a lot of positivity from gamers and critics. Even today, the game is still a favourite among many players worldwide and is known for its gameplay and adrenaline-inducing platform brawler style fights. The game has simple controls and mechanics which means that even players who are new to the game will get used to it fast.

Hearthstone

  • Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
  • Release on Mobile: April 2014

Considered by some to be the greatest card battle game of all time, Hearthstone is a part of Activision Blizzard’s Warcraft series and is known and loved by gamers all over the world for how addicting and enchanting it is. The game manages to draw in players and keeps them hooked to itself by making use of great gameplay in classic Activision Blizzard style.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)

  • Publisher: Tencent Games
  • Mobile release: February 2018

Another fan favourite, PUBG has been dominating the mobile battle royale world for a while now and has been a hit among players and critics also gave it positive reviews. The game’s popularity rose quite quickly and surpassed multiple player count records, providing a lot of gripping and adrenaline-inducing action to players. A smaller-size, budget phone compatible PUBG Mobile Lite also saw a global release.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

  • Publisher: Aspyr media
  • Mobile release: December 2014

Upon its release, the role-playing game was lauded by critics and players for the game’s characters, sound, and story and is considered by some to be among the best video games ever made. The combat system also received praise and despite being delayed a few times, the game upon its eventual release was well received. The game is also known as Star Wars: KOTOR.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

  • Mobile Release: December 2020

When it comes to making a sequel to a game as good as Star Wars KOTOR, the stakes are definitely high but Star Wars KOTOR II managed to satisfy players and critics and received positive reviews for its story, characters, and writing. Critics however felt that in terms of graphics, the game wasn’t too different from its prequel and also felt a bit unfinished.

Stardew Valley

  • Publisher: Chucklefish
  • Mobile release: October 2018

Who doesn’t want to relax and grow some crops and take care of livestock? In Stardew Valley, you don’t need to really go out to do all that. You get a plot of land and then your journey starts. The game is pretty casual and laid back and was well received by players and critics.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch

  • Publisher: Hasbro Interactive, Infogrames, Atari, Frontier Foundry
  • Release on Mobile: February 2017

Another game in which you can sit back and get engrossed in building up to something. The game has pretty cool graphics as well and has a bunch of social media integrations that allow you to share your progress with your friends. The game reviewed positive reviews for its gameplay but also received negative reviews for its wait times and in-app purchases.

1942

  • Publisher: Capcom
  • Mobile release: March 2017

In this game, you pilot a P-38 Lightning and you have to shoot down enemy planes while trying to avoid enemy fire. The game was set in the pacific during the Second World War. The game had good controls and seemed like a good game to play whenever you’re bored but then there were problems in porting and the game lagged a lot for a lot of people. 

XCOM Enemy within

  • Publisher: 2K
  • Mobile release: November 2014

XCOM: Enemy Within is an expansion pack for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a turn-based tactical video game. With this, new elements and features were introduced to the game. The game got favourable reviews from critics and players for its intense and addicting firefights and tactical gameplay. It did get some criticism from critics and players for certain aspects of the game but is still worth playing.

Final Fantasy VII

  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Mobile release: August 2015

Upon its release, the game surprised players and critics, who instantly fell in love with the game’s playability, narrative and technology. The game was said to be considered the greatest game of all time back then. The visuals and graphics were ahead of their time while the soundtrack was also pretty good. Never has a game surprised the world as much as Final Fantasy VII did. It is one of the greatest PC games, which have been ported to mobile.

Tropico

  • Publisher: Feral Interactive
  • Mobile release: September 2019

Tropico manages to mix construction and management social and political commentary, which is a very unique and impressive thing in itself. For people who like games such as SimCity, the game is a must-play. The game’s visuals and music are great but the gameplay can be a bit slow at times.

Fortnite

  • Publisher: Epic Games
  • Mobile release: March 2018

For a while, Fortnite completely took the world by storm. YouTubers, Twitch streamers, gamers. All of them were playing Fortnite and influencing a large number of people. At one point in time, there was an all-out cyberwar between the Fortnite and Minecraft community because Fortnite seemed to be the new rival to the latter. However, when Fortnite Mobile was launched, it seemed to have disappointed gamers. This was because of crashes, lag, and bad visuals.

Black Desert Mobile

  • Mobile release: December 2019

Upon its release, the sandbox oriented fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), was well-received by critics and players. The game’s combat system is particularly impressive and so is its character customization. Black Desert has gotten millions of downloads on other platforms but didn’t get as much popularity on mobile. 

Company of Heroes

Company of Heroes was awarded multiple awards and was lauded by critics for its strategic gameplay and game modes. The game’s visual effects, graphics, and lightning also were appreciated. Another interesting thing is the storyline itself. In the single-player campaign, you lead two US Military units through the Battle of Normandy and the liberation of France. Both of these were very key moments in history relating to the Second World War.

Apex Legends Mobile

  • Publisher: Respawn Entertainment
  • Release on Mobile: May 2022

One of the most popular mobile ports of the year, Apex Legends Mobile has made its way recently to Android and iOS devices. The battle-royale shooter game, which features various legends with different abilities, fast-paced combat would be aiming to end as champions on the battlefield. Played on various maps, it has received mostly positive reviews on its release. Despite being free, the makers of Respawn and Electronic Arts, it has not compromised with most of its features.

With the end of every year, there has been an unending number of PC games which are continuously ported to mobile. The developers and the publishing companies see the mobile market as promising, and in return, have ported their major PC games to mobile devices, which players can enjoy in day-to-day life.
