The year finale event of Wild Rift Esports, the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022, is suffering due to low viewership. The crowning event from Riot Games is featuring 24 teams from 8 regions along with a whopping $2M prize pool.
The LAN event is currently taking place in Singapore, scheduled to end on the 9th of July, 2022. However, the event is suffering from a viewership problem. While the MOBAs’ other top competitors are running on a high number, the game is reportedly losing viewers.
Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022: Reports of losing viewers continuously
Esports Charts showed the stats of the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022, where the peak views touched almost 54K with an average of 27,132 viewers. The fight between RRQ vs USG toped the stat with the most view count. However, the initial day of the event only had around 10K views.
While last year’s Horizon Cup was quite an event, it was not the official global event of Wild Rift Esports. The current event is failing to attract viewers. A report from Esports Charts showed that the Horizon Cup gathered 62,885 peak viewership on its run, while the average number of viewers stood at 35,572. Being a $500 000 event, Horizon Cup collected more numbers than the Icons.
Reasons behind the fall
Experts have pointed out some facts behind the downfall of viewership. One of them includes that the tournament is not streaming on Facebook. While MOBA game streamers are always prioritizing Facebook, Riot is walking differently. The company is using Twitch and YouTube as the platforms.
Besides, the events are being streamed in languages that have fewer audiences and users as well. Another reason for the lack of viewers could be the dominance of the Chinese teams. Four Chinese teams have made it to the knockout stage, where three of them have advanced to the semifinals. Thus, viewers from the rest of the countries are losing interest. Riot Games is seemed to be concerned about the issue. However, fans will be expecting the game to make a comeback with a massive number of viewers. That should get priority right now.
