For the last few years, Netflix has been trying to stake its hold in the gaming industry as a content category like films, animation, and reality TV shows. Yesterday on their official website, Netflix announced the global release of five new games. The streaming service is calling its action “A New Way to Experience Entertainment on Mobile”.
Mike Verdu, the vice president of game development, said, “We love entertaining our members. That’s why we’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix games on mobile to the world and we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone”.
New Netflix games release: How to play the new Netflix games
The games are an add-on to the users’ existing subscriptions. So, people with an active subscription can enjoy the games. At first, all the titles are only available on Android but will come to iOS in the next months. To download and enjoy the games, players need to login into their Netflix account and access them from the Games tab.
The best feature is that they’re free. No advertisements, additional fees, or in-app purchases are needed. The titles are downloadable on multiple mobile devices on the same account.

Of the five games that Netflix is launching, the Stranger Things titles are developed by BonusXP which are the only games based on their mainstream content. Frosty Pop developed the other two and the rest one is developed by Amuzo & Rogue Games. The games are as follows.

- Stranger Things 3: The Game
- Shooting Hoops
- Teeter Up
- Card Blast
As customers are asking if the games will support Bluetooth controllers and game apps for TV, Netflix answered that the games are currently mobile-only. But they’ll incorporate new things into the games.
Previously, Netflix added three new games to its membership catalog in Poland, Italy, and Spain. Just after a day, they acquired Oxenfree developer Night School Studio, the first game studio to join Netflix, to boost its games service. Besides, the company plans to make an official video game based on their recent blockbuster ‘Squid Game‘.
