Honkai Star Rail, the newest major gacha title in the mobile gaming industry, has taken the platform by storm ever since its release on the 26th of April, 2023. It has not been released even a month ago and Honkai Star Rail has already amassed $100 million in terms of mobile revenue. A recent chart stating the revenue earned by the game shows how much of a positive reception the game had.
Honkai Star Rail setting the benchmark
In just 3 weeks of its release, Honkai Star Rail has already touched and gone beyond the crucial $100 million mark in terms of revenue, or one-tenth of a billion if you want to look at it from another perspective. Ever since the game was announced for worldwide release, it was slated for global success, both commercially and in terms of popularity and it has delivered, maybe even exceeded expectations.
Also, in the first week of its release itself, Honkai Star Rail earned $42 million, a very impressive figure for a game in its infancy. The game has offered everything it promised to its players and therefore the favorable reviews from the first wave of the players who played the game garnered even more players for the game. According to the revenue graph by AppMagic, the top three consumers of Honkai Star Rail in order are China, Japan, and the USA. These 3 countries contributed to 76% of the game’s total revenue.
Factors that contributed to the success of Honkai Star Rail
According to the stats, Honkai Star Rail beat its main rival in its gacha category Genshin Impact, from the same developer HoYoverse at launch, which is a significant achievement in itself. Another contributing factor is the story and lore of the game, which is more compact than its counterpart Genshin due to it focusing less on the open-world aspect and more on the story.
Also, Honkai Star Rail launched characters and unlockable characters in the game, two 5-star characters, namely Selee and Jing Yuan. Them being fan-favorites, a lot of players invested heavily in the game in order to acquire them, which also greatly contributed to the huge revenue earned by Honkai Star Rail.
Honkai Star Rail has no doubt made it obvious that it is here to stay and will pose a serious threat to its fellow competitor Genshin, but it will also mean more profit for the developer HoYoverse. The statistics graph of Star Rail is still going upward, and in the coming days will soon rival the biggest games in the market right now both in terms of overall popularity and revenue.
