Following the controversial Remote Raid changes in Pokémon Go, players are listing their game accounts on eBay. The community is upset with Niantic for making alterations to the raids and the raid passes will harm the nature of the game.
The situation is brought on by the criticism of the most recent Remote Raid update
For those who do not know, the upcoming update will be featuring some changes to the price of the Remote Raid Passes. The three-pack will increase to 525 PokéCoins, whereas the single Remote Raid Passes prince will increase to 195 PokéCoins. Along with these, a Premium Battle Pass three-pack will be added to the shop for the price of 250 PokéCoins.
To make matters worse, Trainers will only be allowed to take part in a maximum of five Remote Raids each day in Pokémon Go’s new Remote Raid participation limits, and may only change in certain events. The players were upset by this change, and they have since started their boycotting of the game in a different manner, which is by selling accounts.
On eBay, a well-known e-commerce site, Pokémon Go players are found offering their accounts for sale, with the listing of these accounts seen at various prices. Few prices exceed $500, and some are so outrageously costly that they are likely to draw attention to the unfair Raid Pass pricing policies.
The Community has addressed Niantic in an open letter
As a part of the ongoing protest, the player community has put an open letter to the developers. The letter mentioned that the community is “sad, distraught, and discouraged” with the update, and looks forward to a discussion. With the #HearUsNiantic tag, players over the world are sharing the letter on different platforms, as the efforts to convey the message to the team continue.
Previously, the players announced a strike in protest over Niantic’s monetization policy on the same, and over time expressed dissatisfaction with the direction things are going. Niantic’s impending price rise on Remote Raid Passes is mentioned as a horrible marketing strategy, and thus the retaliation of the players in the community.
The community has tried to alert the developers on the challenges, but Niantic has kept silent, so we will have to wait and watch how things turn out.
